Rock Valley Physical Therapy Celebrates Runners

Publish Date: Thu, July 20, 2017 - 10:47:00

*Note: These stories were originally published in 2014.  This week for Throwback Thursday we continue to celebrate the successes of our patients!  If you have a story you'd like to share, please submit it via our Facebook page using the Hashtag #LiveLifeBetter.

The patient is at the center of our efforts; thousands of loyal patients can attest to the difference.  This summer we asked you about your Rock Valley Physical Therapy story – a chance for you to tell us how running has improved your quality of life. We had some wonderful stories submitted and wanted to share them with you.

Tom Unruh’s Story:

I started running in my 40’s. I usually run 5K’s and in October of 2010, I ran and completed the Chicago Marathon. I ran this in honor of my father, Paul Unruh who passed away with Parkinson’s Disease and to also raise money for the disease through the Michael J. Fox Foundation.  Read the full story here.

Lance Gunkel’s Story:

In 2002 I was looking towards the future: I was soon to be married and just started my first job after college graduation.  However, I felt poorly about the degree to which I let my health slide.  Over the past few years my weight ballooned up to 240 lbs.  Read the full story here.

Jim Kempter’s Story:

I have just completed my rehab sessions at Clinton's Rock Valley location.  With the help of Wendy, I have progressed considerably............more flexibility, and far less pain.  I am most grateful for the assistance Wendy provided me.  She is the best..........PERIOD.  I would also like to compliment the other staff members for being so prompt, and courteous in doing their jobs.  I will always appreciate how the entire Clinton Rock Valley staff showed real concern and interest in helping me.  Many thanks Wendy, and all the Clinton staff.

Dylan DeClerck’s Story:

20 months ago I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and earlier this year I decided that to show how I am not limited by the condition I am going to run a marathon.  I began increasing my fitness by practicing with the ultimate frisbee team at college, and then began my training in May.  Although there have been many times where I've felt like I'll never make it 26 miles, what keeps me motivated is my success in other runs and the support of my family, friends, and therapist.  I started seeing Sam at Rock Valley in Clive because I was having problems with soreness during and after runs.  With the techniques he gave me, I was able to complete another huge milestone in my training, running a 7 mile race and finishing in 51:19.  I can't wait to keep progressing as a runner and as a teenager fighting arthritis!

Greg Sullivan’s Story:

It all started in the seventh grade when a friend of mine suggested I join the track team. I took his advice, jumped in with both feet, and find myself, 41 years later, still at it. And thousands of miles into this thing called “running,” I still can’t help but ask the question posed by runners and non-runners worldwide: “Why?”  Read the full story here.
