Meet Melissa Gerard
PT, MPT
Melissa Gerard is originally from Omaha, Nebraska and had the opportunity to return to Omaha in 2004 as she and her husband started a family. Melissa received her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City and received her Masters in Physical Therapy from The University of St. Augustine in St. Augustine, Florida. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, walking her dog, traveling, and woodworking projects.
Why did you become a Therapist?
Plagued with a couple of minor injuries as a swimmer in high school and college, I was able to work through those injuries and get back on track, learning that injuries don’t have to divert your goals. This was my introduction to physical therapy. I continue to be amazed at the power of exercise combined with the right mindset at any stage in life.
What are you involved in in your community?
As my children have grown, I have had the opportunity to be actively involved in the school community on many levels. Additionally, I enjoy volunteering on construction sites with Habitat for Humanity as well as providing meals for Youth Emergency Services.
Awards and Certifications:
Over the 20 + years I have worked as a therapist, I have honed my manual therapy and exercise prescription skills and completed my Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist Certification and am currently completing my Geriatric Falls and Balance Prevention Certification through the American Physical Therapy Association.
